Bleaching

The tooth colour is very individual from person to person. It changes with age as well as through the storage of colouring agents (coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine and so on). Deeply penetrated discolorations cannot be removed by oral hygiene alone. In some cases, even professional dental cleaning may no longer be sufficient. Bleaching can lighten teeth by one or two shades.
Requirements
Bleaching can be performed on any adult patient after observing the following points. There must be no caries in the bleaching area, the gums must be healthy and the teeth must be free of plaque. Because only clean teeth can be whitened effectively. If this is not the case, professional teeth cleaning can help.
There are also cases where bleaching has no effect. Because fillings or crowns cannot be whitened. So they can appear darker after a treatment.
What can you expect?
The active ingredient of the bleaching material is hydrogen peroxide. It penetrates the enamel and dentin and releases active oxygen. This causes the colour molecules to change and appear colourless. The teeth are not weakened. Because the pHneutral agents do not attack the teeth and no minerals are extracted. This does not result in the removal of the colouring material from the tooth, but in a chemical change that makes the discoloured molecules appear colourless/”invisible”.
Temporary tooth sensitivity can occur during or shortly after the treatment. These quickly subside again.
